Spitfire Doors on display in Farnborough showroom
When it came to refurbishing their long-standing showroom in Farnborough, Sherborne Windows MD Chris Long decided to focus on luxury aluminium entrance doors. Chris chose to work with the European market leader Spitfire Doors, and the only tough decision was which of the 600+ designs to display!
The S-500 Series offers impeccable engineering, high security and outstanding thermal performance.
On display at Sherborne you’ll find unique designs combining special RAL colours, textures and wood finishes combined with three panes of 6mm laminated glass and stainless steel pull handles.
Whilst all Spitfire S-500 Series doors are equipped with a high quality multipoint lock and an end-to-end adjustable shootbolt made of solid stainless steel, the S-500 on display at Sherborne has been fitted with fingerprint recognition entry.
In addition, Sherborne have installed two doors from the S-200 range, which can be manufactured in sizes up to 1.1m wide by 2.2m high, with U-values as low as 1.4 W/m2K.
In line with current trends, Chris chose a contemporary design in Anthracite Grey with a square handle and spyhole and another door in Purple Grey aluminium with a triple glazed unit and long bar handle. Each S-200 door sash features discreet mechanical fixings to prevent distortion in hot and cold climates, and subtle micro-adjustment devices in the head and base of the door.

This pivoting system is permitted due to two pivot hinges which are positioned 200mm from the edge of both the top and bottom of the door.
This positioning of the pivot hinges enhances weight distribution, distributing it evenly, unlike traditional side-hinged doors.
The use of a pivot stabilises the door, by allowing the door to rotate on a point with no wrap movement.
This functionality can alter depending on its feature variations. The point of movement/pivot can be both central and asymmetrical.
